Sataban Saeng Sawang began in 1979 under the auspices of the Holt Sahathai Foundation, a child welfare organization. At that time, there were several young children under the care of the Holt Sahathai Foundation and there were other children in the community who were in need of special education. A group of concerned parents joined with the foundation to establish a play group for 5 children at the home of Mrs. Katherine Blanchand. After a few months, this play group was moved to the Christ Church at 11, Covenant Road in Bangkok. It was a pilot project for the first special education program of its kind in Thailand.
